Kitchen renovations

If you are looking at renovating a kitchen in your home and are not sure where to start, the best place is right in your own kitchen or a kitchen you have had in the past!

Take a step back and take a look at what you have previously loved, what has worked, and what simply annoys you and wish it was positioned elsewhere! Functionality is my most considered part of a renovation. Where will the bin be? Is unpacking the dishwasher complicated and confusing? Can you reach draws and shelves easily?

Taking all of these questions into consideration when planning the layout will set a very good structure for the basis of your new kitchen!

If you are renovating a larger family home with the opportunity for open plan living, kitchens with an island bench are great for adding additional storage under the island and creating a space that is great for entertaining groups of people.

If the house is smaller, considering a galley kitchen or a straight line kitchen could be the best option to achieve a functional and beautifully put together kitchen.

Planning the layout to include enough space so that you can comfortably move around the kitchen is an important factor. A great rule of thumb is having your fridge, cooktop and sink in a triangle to each other for optimum functionality! This allows for easy cooking, cleaning and fetching ingredients whilst preparing food.

If you are planning a major renovation that will require plumbing or electrical to be moved, your layout should be considered very carefully to ensure that your utilities can be placed in their desired position. Plumbing and electrical are an expensive part of a renovation so it is important to get it right and avoid costly mistakes.

If you are renovating on a tighter budget, consider planning a layout that does not require any plumbing or electrical to be moved. Cosmetic changes to a kitchen can make a huge impact and are a great way to utilise what you already have whilst still adding value to your home!
